Practical answers
Questions are part of the process.
A modern business phone system can be simple, but the details should match your business. Here are the questions we hear most often.
Can I use a real desk phone?
Yes. Physical desk and office phones are available. You can use apps, physical phones, or a combination.
Do I have to buy phones from Gemini Lines?
Not necessarily. Most customers buy compatible equipment, but lease and deal-based options may be available. Existing standards-based phones can be reviewed for compatibility, condition, provisioning, and support before reuse.
Can I keep my existing number?
Usually, yes. Transferring a number is called porting. We will verify eligibility and coordinate the transfer as part of setup.
Should I cancel my current phone service before a number transfer?
No. The existing service should normally remain active until the number transfer has completed and incoming calls are confirmed. We will help identify when the old service can be addressed.
How is the service priced?
Service is generally priced per user. Basic is $10 per user/month for straightforward business calling. Plus is $18 and adds messaging and teamwork. Advanced starts at $25 and adds higher-value call handling and productivity options. Exact enabled services and case-by-case items are confirmed in the proposal.
Does every user need a separate phone number?
No. A seat can receive a local business number when one is useful, but several users may instead answer a shared business number. We confirm the number and call-flow design in the proposal.
What does “custom” mean?
It means we review the option with you instead of making assumptions. A custom or case-by-case item is not automatically expensive or complicated; it may be a simple addition that depends on your devices, workflow, or agreement.
Can my business send and receive texts?
Yes. Business SMS and MMS are available. Incoming and outbound usage, registration, shared access, and any marketing use will be reviewed during discovery.
Does business texting require registration?
Yes for outbound business messaging on U.S. 10-digit numbers. The business, intended message types, consent path, example messages, and opt-out handling must be documented for A2P/10DLC registration before messaging is enabled. Carrier approval and message delivery are not guaranteed.
How is business texting charged?
Business messaging is $10 per SMS-enabled number/month and includes up to 250 billed SMS units and 25 MMS messages per month, counting inbound and outbound use together. Additional usage is $5 for another 250 SMS units or $5 for another 100 MMS messages. Higher-volume, automated, or marketing use is reviewed separately.
Can more than one person answer the same number?
Yes. Shared lines, call routing, groups, and shared texting can help a small team respond through one business identity.
Can I work from home or away from the office?
Yes. With internet access, the mobile and desktop apps let you use your business calling and messaging outside the office.
Do you support faxing?
Yes. Depending on the enabled service and compatible equipment, faxing can work through a supported online, email, app, or physical-machine workflow.
Is emergency calling included?
Yes. Emergency calling is included, but internet-based phone service has limitations. It depends on working power, internet, correctly configured service, and a current registered location. Do not rely exclusively on an app or internet phone service for emergency communications. Review the service disclosures and keep the service address current.
Do you offer toll-free numbers?
Yes. Toll-free numbers are available case by case. Toll-free service has separate number charges and metered inbound calling, which are confirmed in the proposal.
What should I know about call recording?
Recording can be enabled where it fits the service. The customer is responsible for determining and following any notice, consent, retention, and access requirements that apply to its calls. We confirm availability and setup in the proposal.
Do you provide greetings and call menus?
Yes. Setup can include welcome menus, voicemail greetings, open/closed routing, and other programmed call handling.
How long does setup take?
A simple new-number and app setup can move quickly once the details are confirmed. Number transfers, hardware, carrier registration, complex programming, or training add outside dependencies and are scheduled based on the actual scope.
Are taxes and regulatory charges included in the published prices?
No. Public prices are planning figures. Applicable taxes, regulatory charges, registration, hardware, premium integrations, and specialized services are confirmed in the written proposal.
Is service month to month?
Yes. Standard service is month to month unless a written proposal says otherwise. Cancellation does not erase charges already incurred or other outstanding balances. A valid number-transfer request is processed separately from collection of any unpaid balance.
Do I buy online?
No. Gemini Lines is contact-first. We talk through your business, agree on the fit and price, and then complete the setup.
